A new building with 120 rental flats and two commercial units is being built in Dresden on a total area of around 9,800 square metres.
The balconies of the apartment block were designed with the thermal break balcony connector Egcobox® and incorporated an insulation thickness of 80 mm. Most of the balcony connections were subject to fire protection requirements (REI 90). A total of more than 300 Egcobox® units were supplied in the rock wool version (REI 120), mainly type MM50-VS-C50-h220-REI120-SW.
With regard to sound insulation, on the one hand there was a requirement for the weighted standard impact sound level L'n,w ≤ 58 dB, which corresponds to the increased requirements in accordance with DIN 4109 (08/2020). On the other hand, the level of sound insulation actually achieved was to be verified under practical building conditions - instead of only under laboratory conditions.
After the interior work was completed and in an unfurnished state, measurements were carried out on various balconies and connection situations. Depending on the connection situation and location of the rooms, values of L'n,w = 41...53 dB were achieved. The requirements of L'n,w ≤ 58 dB were thus clearly exceeded in every single case.
In a building complex with many residents, good sound insulation ensures a quiet and pleasant living atmosphere.
