Stremaform® - Expansion Joints

Controlled concrete expansion and contraction from MAX FRANK.

We've looked at Stremaform®, the proven 'self-supporting' jointing system, as a practical solution for day joints and deep slab applications. Now we explore Stremaform® for movement joints in concrete slabs and walls.

Concrete slabs and buildings expand and contract due to changes in temperature from the surrounding environment. Without creating expansion joints, these structures would crack under the induced stress. Stremaform® is an ideal solution to allow controlled movement at the joint location – also reducing sound transmission between concrete members.

Stremaform® units, for expansion joints, are different in appearance and structure to the usual compact mesh. The material supplied for expansion joints consists of an insulation enclosed between steel mesh supporting panels. The insulation material can be polystyrene or heat resistant mineral wool and the units can be adapted to suit different applications as outlined below.

Stremaform® Expansion Joints - for walls and slabs:

  • Choice of insulation: polystyrene or mineral wool (for fire protection).
  • Can be supplied with integrated waterstop.
  • Shear force dowels can be incorporated where force transmission and dynamic loads are present.

Stremaform® enables the Contractor to pour a sequence of concrete pours, whilst incorporating expansion joints, ultimately reducing the construction period. As a permanent formwork, Stremaform® remains in situ – eliminating the need to strip the formwork.
